Truro Cornwall

We have spent a couple of winters before in Truro, so knew already that it is a great city and were looking forward to spending time here again. Even though Truro is, a City it really feels like a town and I really like it

The reason we were in Truro was because Tweedy was performing in Panto at ‘The Hall for Cornwall’. It was Sleeping Beauty and Tweedy played himself, which was great for him after playing one character for two years.

Willow went to a local school for a few weeks, which she loved. She went to this school three years ago so was excited to go back and we already knew it was a nice school that would do a good job welcoming her and help her settle, not only in the area but back into the UK. It is amazing just how well she has settled back. One afternoon the whole school went to the Panto.

We went to the Truro Museum, which Willow enjoyed, and it was free. We also completed the Truro walking Trail, which I found interesting. It took us down streets that we had not been down before and taught us both some history and facts about the place we had been living.

Before when we stayed in Truro we stayed outside a bit but this time we wanted to be more in the city, especially as we wouldn't have a car to start. We knew exactly where we wanted to stay and managed to book it early. We stayed at Hillside Cottage, which is just a short walk from the City Centre, which really made all the difference to the stay.

Nine miles from Truro is the town of Perrenporth, which has the most amazing beach. We managed to get over there a few times including Christmas day, which was wonderful. There are cliffs, caves, and sand dunes to explore depending on the tide. There is a big rock in the middle of the beach or sea again depending again on the tide and the second time we visited someone had dragged a Christmas tree up there, including a generator and lights. We never saw it lit up but I am sure it looked amazing.

On Boxing Day (26th December for my non-UK friends) it was our dogs birthday and we celebrated by taking her to Truro Cathedral for a Children and Pet carol service. It was mainly dogs but there were also rabbits, birds, stick insects and more. It was a very bizarre noisy time. The Cathedral is impressive inside and out and we visited when it wasn’t full up with an assortment of animals as well. Apparently, a dragon lives underneath it and that is why there is heat when you walk over the grills. If this is the case then I think it is a bit dangerous to have all those animals in there.

Having amazing digs allowed us to have a bit of a birthday party for Tweedy, which was nice, especially as so many people came back to the cottage after the Panto had finished that night.

The New Year was a quiet one, well in the sense that we spent it at the cottage, but not in the sense that we can hear the cathedral bells and see and hear all the fireworks from the garden. It was a nice way to bring in the New Year.

Now for 2011, I wonder what it will bring.
