From a railway carraige.

This was one of my favourite poems as a child and this very second in time it just feels so apt. Though we tend not to go faster than fairies and witches.

'From a Railway Carriage'

Faster than fairies, faster than witches,
Bridges and houses, hedges and ditches;
And charging along like troops in a battle
All through the meadows the horses and cattle:
All of the sights of the hill and the plain
Fly as thick as driving rain;
And ever again, in the wink of an eye,
Painted stations whistle by.
Here is a child who clambers and scrambles,
All by himself and gathering brambles;
Here is a tramp who stands and gazes;
And here is the green for stringing the daisies!
Here is a cart runaway in the road
Lumping along with man and load;
And here is a mill, and there is a river:
Each a glimpse and gone forever!

Uniondale

The next train run was relativity short in miles but still took all day to do. It was also a girl only train run in our car as Tweed was staying over night at some ones place in New York. We had a good time just the two of us. We were still relatively close to New York City, close enough to go if we were not going to be spending the next three weeks practically living there but since it was our next stop, decided to wait till then.

We found a play park right next to the train, though only after Tweed and Willow walked miles to go to another one we spotted on Google map, we don't find enough play parks for Willows liking. We were also parked within walking distance to the mall and other shops which is a big bonus. We hit the mall as soon as the train stopped and many times after. The train was cut into many pieces and our luck was in being right next to the road to get out.

We found a Children's Museum close by as well which was lots of fun. Even though we gave ourselves the recommended time to get around it we still didn't manage to do all the activities, I think we may have spent more time playing (sorry learning) than maybe most people do.

Oh and I nearly forgot the small amazing red bird we saw. I think it stood out all the more as it was splashing about in a mucky puddle. It looked so pretty and out of place. Shame it was camera shy.

Newark, New Jersey

Well I haven't Blogged in a while as I thought I would bundle New Jersey and New York in together, but now realise what a big mistake that would have been on so many levels. So where have we been since I lasts posted?

We had our first really long train run which lasted 3 days and really wasn't as bad as it sounds or even could have been. A lot of sleeping took place and you kind off lost track of days and time. We also saw a lot of changing scenery and weather and Willow was a little excited hoping we would get some real snow. Her luck was in when we arrived at Newark, New Jersey and there was a good layer of snow around. Enough to make a small snow man and snow angels and for her to realise that snow does actually make you cold. There was also lots of very big fences and police patrols as we were parked right next to the prison. Close enough to actually watch the inmates exercise if you so desired, I didn't.

Newark actually felt like a city, not a particularly nice city but a city all the same. So many places we go are so spread out you don't feel this at all so that was a nice change.
